Animals shouldn’t be treated like humans—here’s why.
Animals don’t fully understand what’s going on with the world, like what’s good and what’s bad, what’s right and what’s wrong. Okay, you have a dog that can press buttons to talk, cool. For example, let’s say the “talking” dog went to a show, and they press the buttons, YOU ARE DUMB. They can talk and say something that makes sense. Although it’s not completely un-human-like, it’s pointless and rude.
We should only treat animals humanely, pets included. Ways of treating animals humanely are by treating them with human characteristics like sleeping at night and waking them up in the morning, unless the animals are nocturnal, or feeding them lots of water when it’s hot. If we treat them like humans, that is very inhumane. Animals might think of themselves as a human and would want to do human activities, like sleeping on the bed or eating at the table. But animals should have their way of sleeping and eating, not like humans. If that animal has babies, those babies might behave similarly and it might threaten their lives in the wild, this could endanger species.
If animals continue being treated like humans, they will start to become humans: dogs will walk on two legs, and turtles may shed their shells and start to walk. I don’t want a world where there are just humans, I want a world where there are both humans and animals.
When it comes to animal welfare, everyone is obligated to treat animals humanely, and not as humans. Because the treatment of animals as humans can endanger their welfare.
Animals are animals, humans are humans, and their lives shouldn’t bother each other. Humans have no right to treat animals the way they are treated.
Just because people shouldn’t treat animals like humans doesn’t mean people should stop learning about them. People should always learn more things about animals, just not by treating them as humans.
All people should treat animals fairly, and humanely, but not like humans. If we want our animals to stay in this world with us, we must stop treating animals like humans.
