On June 26th, 2022, Chun In-Gee completed a wire-to-wire victory at the Women’s PGA Championship in Maryland for her third major title and first in six years as well as ranking 33rd in the whole world.

She ranked behind Australia’s Minjee Lee and America’s Lexi Thompson who were tied for second.

Chun In-Gee is 27 years old and from South Korea. She’s a previous US Open and Evian Championship winner who finished one shot ahead of the field, finishing on five under, despite a three-over-par 75 in 2015.

She led five shots after an open round of 64, which she followed with a 69 and closed with two 75s.

A week before the tournament, Chun In-Gee spoke to her sister and admitted to struggling to “see the goal.” She was considering leaving the US, but when her sister advised she quit golf to prioritize herself, Chun realized she was not ready to walk away.

On the day of the tournament, she started the day by shooting three shots ahead of the field but dropped four shots on the front nine in a final round that included five bogeys and two birdies.

After the championships, Chun In-Gee told reporters, “It just means a lot because I didn’t have any wins for almost three-and-a-half years. My loyal fans in Korea, never gave up on me no matter how I did.”

In an emotional press conference, Chun reflected on a difficult four-year journey through which she said she had faced calls from some to retire. She stated, “when I got a slump, some people said, ‘In-Gee, you should retire because your game is not good right now.’ But no matter what they said, I believe I can make win again. I’m so proud now.”

“I think this win feels really special because I always said my depression is getting better,” Chun told others. “I’m just so happy to make win after all that happened. I want to keep saying, ‘I’m so proud of myself.’ She added.
