Justin Bieber is a Canadian singer and teen idol who played a huge role in modern-day pop music.

Unfortunately, he revealed that he has a rare neurological disease called Ramsay Hunt Syndrome. The virus that causes chickenpox is the same that causes this syndrome. The virus remains dormant, sometimes even for decades.

A weakened immune system or any type of emotional stress could reactivate the virus, resulting in shingles. Symptoms can be painful rashes and blisters, which can last for weeks. They’ll usually appear on only one part of the body.

About 1 in 20,000 people experience the virus’ reactivation in the facial nerve, which can result in swelling and may become irritated. These symptoms are the effects of the Ramsay Hunt Syndrome.

Ramsay Hunt Syndrome can cause paralysis in facial areas. There is a facial nerve that carries nerve fibers that involuntarily controls facial movement that create expressions, like smiling. Ramsay Hunt Syndrome causes inflammation which can pinch that nerve. Pinching the nerve can make it malfunction. Thus, leading to paralysis.

Since the announcement, he has canceled three shows on his 2022 Justice World Tour.

“It is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves, and has caused my face to have paralysis,” the 28-year-old singer told some of his fans in an Instagram video. “As you can see, this eye is not blinking. I can’t smile on this side of my face. This nostril will not move.”

Bieber is very optimistic about his recovery. He is using facial exercises to expedite his return.

Bieber is trying his best to recover. He is doing facial exercises taking a break from his expedition. He is very optimistic, and hopefully, he can return to performing before the end of the year. Many of his fans hope he will get better very soon.
