Karolina Muchova, a 25-year-old professional tennis player from the Czech Republic, has made it to the finals of Roland Garros 2023 and will face off against the No.1 ranking in the world, Iga Swiatek. In the semi-finals, Karolina Muchova defeated Aryna Sabalenka, who is ranked No.2 in the world. Muchova was down 2-5 in the deciding set, but she fought back, won 20 out of the last 24 points and made it to the finals. Muchova sprained her ankle in the 2022 French Open, forcing her to withdraw from the tournament as well as sending her ranking to 235th in the world. She entered the 2023 French Open ranked 43rd in the world, and was playing against the 8th seed, Maria Sakkari. She beat Sakkari 7-6(5), 7-5. People started to chant her name and cheer for her, as she tried to remain calm, “Here and there I had to let it out and scream a little bit,” she said after a win to the interviewers, adding: “It was crazy out there.” Iga Swiatek, on the other hand, has had a much more enjoyable career compared to Maria Sakkari. She won her first grand slam in 2020, when she was 19 years old, and became the No.1 seed in April 2022. She played against Beatriz Haddad Maia in the semi-finals, winning 6-2, 7-6(7).
Karolina Muchova will use every weapon she has and keep Swiatek guessing what she will pull out next. She has a chance to win, as she has defeated many top players before and is ready to show the world that she can compete and win.
