In the French Women’s Final, the world’s number one women’s tennis player Iga Swiatek will face Karolina Muchova, an opponent who has won all five matches she played against players in the top three.
Karolina Muchova is a 26 year-old tennis player from the Czech Republic. She isn’t considered young by the standards of the Czech Republic, which seems to sprout new teen wonders each year. In her late teen years, her height grew to 5,11 5’11and she began suffering injuries. Battling those, at the peak of 2021 she grew to 19th in the world rankings. However, her injuries soon caught up to her and she fell back to 235th place.
Karolina was held back a lot by her health issues, and some of her doctors even advised her to quit sports. Despite this, Muchova pushed through one rehabilitation to another. She played many small games in places such as Concord, Massachusetts; Shrewsbury, England; and Angers, Greece.
Now, in the French Women’s Finals, she will face the No. 1 ranked tennis player in the world, Iga Swiatek.
Iga Swiatek is the current No. 1 ranked player in the world. Swiatek started playing tennis at age four and is from Poland. She recently turned 22 and won her first Grand Slam at age 19. Swiatek became No. 1 at age 20 when Ashleigh Barty suddenly retired at age 25.
Starting from last year, Swiatek has settled down with a more solidly aggressive approach, rather than the all-court style Muchova has. And it works. Iga has won many matches with scores 6-0 and 6-1.
Last year, there was a rumor that the only person who could beat Swiatek was Swiatek. She mentioned her anxiety and nerves. Swiatek also mentioned that after the first few rounds the nervousness eases, and she allows herself to enjoy the sport and her achievements.
The Finals, however, will be a different matter entirely. The two stars have played only once before when Muchova won in three sets while Swiatek was still ranked 95th in the world.
Now the two will face each other again, the world’s No. 1 against a winning natural player.
