World Athletics Championships In Tokyo
Japan’s National Stadium in Tokyo is hosting the World Athletics Championship on September 13-21, 2025.
Tokyo’s National Stadium was rebuilt for the 2020 Olympic Games and the 2020 Paralympic Games. It has been the 3rd time the championships have been in Japan, along with the 1991 and 2007 championships.
Over 3000 athletes from about 200 countries are expected to take part in the championships. There are 147 medals to be awarded in 49 events on a chaotic schedule, and a total of $6.3 million on offer. There will be numerous events: field events like high jump, pole vault, javelin throw, road events like the marathon, and combined events like the heptathlon and decathlon.
Great Britain hopes that Keely Hodkinson, an Olympic Champion for the 800-meter run, will be able to win a big medal, along with Katarina Johnson-Thomson, a heptathlon runner. Also, Josh Kerr, a world champion in the 1500 meter event, and in the women’s 1500 meter Georgia Hunter-Bell and Laura Muir.
Other athletes are speedy Olympic champions Noah Lyles and Julien Alfred, along with fellow American Kenneth Bednarek. The women’s 100 and 400m relay will also have 10-time World Champion and Legend Shelly-Ann Frasier-Pryce, who is hoping to end her career by adding to her 24 medals.
