Women’s Super League undergoes changes in 2026-2027
The Women’s Super League (WSL) is going to have a few big changes from 2026-2027, making the games tighter and stricter. The change will also increase the number of teams from twelve to fourteen, starting in 2026-2027. Each team will play 22 games against all the other teams, including both home and away games.
The winner in the 2024 WSL was Chelsea, marking their 6th win straight without getting beat. Over 1 million fans watch the WSL games when they occur- this number rose during the 2023-2024 season. The WSL was made to replace the previous women’s soccer league, the FA Women’s Premier League National Division, in order to turn it into a more fun and entertaining group.
There are some new teams welcomed into the WSL. Some are from cities like San Diego, as well as Houston and Utah. The boss of the WSL, Nikki Doucet, said that the changes would “increase opportunities for women to exercise in the league, and would stimulate movement between leagues.” Doucet says that the changes would going to help the league continue for many years.
