The Women’s Euro 2025 Games
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Women’s European Championship 2025 (Women’s Euro), will be starting on Wednesday, July the 2nd, with 16 teams all across Europe coming to Switzerland to compete for the title of the best.
With England looking to keep the crown as the Euro 2022 champion and Wales making their first international tournament, it’s set to be a big year for the countries participating.
The games will occur in Switzerland, with Zurich, the largest city in Switzerland, Bern, the capital, and another six towns will be hosting games during the tournament.
Some of the best teams in the world are competing, including Spain, Germany and England. Despite being the reigning champions for the Women’s Euro 2022, England had mixed performances in the Nations League and will have to deal with famed players missing from the group.
Like the World Cup, the Euros are split into groups of four teams, which are randomly chosen. Each team will play against others in its group, earning three points for a win, one for a draw, and none for a loss. The two teams in each group with the most points will then advance to the finals.
The squads of teams for the Women’s Euro 2025 are: Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Finland for Group A, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Italy for Group B, Group C with Germany, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, and finally, Group D has France, England, Wales, Netherlands.
As a kick off game, Iceland will compete with Finland on Wednesday July 2 – the first time after Finland won over Iceland in July, 2023.
The month-long fight for the trophy will end with the final game on Sunday July 27, starting at 5pm United Kingdom (UK) time.
One of the biggest and most popular female athletes at the Women’s Euro 2025 is Aitana Bonmati. Bonmati, a Spanish midfielder who won the Ballon d’Or in 2024. The award is the highest football prize given to the best players in the world.
The manager of England women’s national team, Sarina Wiegman, has said she’s very happy with her group for the Women’s Euro 2025 because it’s full of famous football stars. This includes Alessia Russo, who might be England’s main goal-scorer. As well as that, Lauren James, a soccer player for England, will be returning from an injury, with fans hoping that she’ll be back to full fitness.
The UEFA Women’s European Championship 2025 has not only provided exhilarating football, but has also served as a testament to the resilience and talent of women in the sport. The continued growth of female athlete participation, the development of future generations of players, and the constant pursuit of equitable opportunities within the sport of football will be shown throughout its legacy.
