What is Genshin Impact? Genshin is a RP (role play) gacha (pulling for characters) video game packed with insane amounts of detail. All the voice actors, in each of the four voice-over languages, for the 51 characters are professional. In fact, HoyoVerse, the company that made Genshin, hired a Chinese opera singer for one of their game quests. Not only that, the game design is overflowing with creativity and detail. From character clothing to terrain design and lore (theorized backstories), Genshin is an intricately-invented multimillion-player game for everyone across the globe.
An Introduction to Genshin Characters
Despite its true purpose as a gacha game, many people play Genshin as a video game. HoyoVerse built in a smart twist, because players can access cooler and better characters through the gacha. People have to either grind (work hard) or use real-world money to get Primogems, the currency for wishing (gacha pulling). This gives HoyoVerse its money, since Genshin is free to download. Additionally, all the characters are loaded with power through every update. Old characters are constantly being replaced with new characters that have a higher DPS (damage per second rate), higher ATK (attack) bonuses, higher DEF (defense) abilities, and better healing skills. Each character wields a different weapon. There are currently five types: swords, claymores, bows, polearms, and catalyst. The characters also hold a vision (a tiny relic) that is bestowed to people on the continent of Teyvat (the world Genshin is set in), that encases an elemental skill. It is possible to attain two visions, but it is super rare. Only one character achieved this, but their power was broken later.
So far there are seven elements in Genshin: pryo, hydro, anemo, electro, dendro, cryo, and geo. These correspond to fire, water, air/wind, electric, grass/nature, ice, and earth/stone. There is also a theorized element, light, as there is a light sigil in the game. Light sigils can be offered to the Statue of the Vassal of Watasumi.
Characters may also be buffed up by artifacts, which are found when they defeat a boss or open chests. Opening chests can give you EXP (experience) so you can level up your character. This is because your character level cannot pass your EXP level. To level up your character, you need books, which are also found in chests, or when bosses are defeated. You must raise your character to every level cap by using different materials. In fact, all things about your character can be leveled up, from talents to weapons. Your character can become OP (over powered). You can also level up your AR (adventure rank) by completing daily commissions and world quests, finding chests, and defeating enemies. You can slowly level up to AR 60 (the last AR). Every AR gives you a new gift, such as fates (1 fate=160 Primogems).
When choosing who to main (the leader of your 4-character team), remember that you can pull for four stars and five stars. Four-star characters aren’t that bad if you get the right one, and buff up. My whole team is 4 stars and consists of Noelle, Kuki Shinobu, Kaeya, and Bennet.
This is just a simple introduction to the characters of Genshin. There many other terrains, pieces of lore, terms, and elemental reactions in the continent of Teyvat.
