Liz Cambage is an Australian professional basketball player. She currently holds the WNBA single-game scoring record with her 53-point performance against the New York Liberty on 17 July 2018. When Cambage first joined the Los Angeles Sparks, she confidently declared this team was “where she wanted to be.” But just 5 months later, she wants a divorce contract.

Cambage could be leaving the team because she wasn’t happy with how the team paid her. Cambage left the team as an unrestricted free agent after the 2021 season but did so because she insulted the WNBA’s pay structure when the team signed Becky Hammond as head coach for $1 million.

Cambage had recently recovered from her third bout of COVID-19. Because of COVID-19made her miss games. For instance, Cambage sat out in the 2020 season, so she made it to the semifinals in 2021 and 2022. Along with COVID-19, she also had other health issues.

Cambage publicly discussed her mental health journey and treatments for depression. With her condition, Cambage decided to try out other jobs.

Cambage wanting a divorce contract could also be because of her other jobs outside of basketball. “It was a surprise — I didn’t know what really escalated it,” Fred Williams, the team’s interim coach, said at a media availability on Tuesday. “A lot of it could have been things off the court, off floor, who knows. Having conversations with her afterward, it just felt it was good for her personally to make that move. All we can do as an organization is support that and her decisions and just move on.” For example, she models for Adidas and is a brand ambassador for Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty lingerie line. She is also a D.J. and signed to Wasserman Music.

Hopefully, in the future, Cambadge’s health problems will disappear, allowing her to continue her career.
