Who’s going to be this planet’s 2025 best cheese award?
After a record-breaking of 5,244 cheeses in this years competition, 265 judges tasted and judged 2025’s cheese entries in search for a winner. All this took place at convention in Bern Switzerland. Over 46 countries had entered in this year’s best cheese competition. Judges were given directions to judge the cheeses based on appearance, it’s scent, body, texture, and taste. Little did they know the home nation of this years convention was going to take the big win.
All cheese are made from curdling milk while adding other spices and products in order to get that creamy, spreadable, cheese like consistency, and intriguing flavor. Every cheese is made by doing these few steps, but for each cheese the maker will slightly tweak the steps by adding different combinations of spices, and possibly doing steps out of order. This was how each individual cheese got its own unique custom flavor.
This year’s award winning cheese was made in Switzerland. It was one of their traditional kinds of cheese with a nutty taste and a firm texture. Judges had narrowed the cheeses down to 14 left from British, Japan, Slovakia, USA, and the Netherland, but they chose the classic Swiss gruyere cheese! Judge Perry Wakeman picked this year’s winner, and he said that the reason he chose the Swiss gruyere cheese was because it was the kind of cheese, “That would make people get excited about cheese from all walks of life.”
