Under Trump’s Orders, American Missiles Struck Three of Iran’s Nuclear Facilities
On Saturday, June 21st, President Trump announced that American missiles had been launched at three of Iran’s nuclear sites, “totally [obliterating]” them. There is no direct evidence for these claims. Mr. Trump called this a “spectacular military success.” Mr. Trump also stated that the objective of the attacks was for the “destruction of Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity.”
Despite the strikes, the President continuously urged Iran to accept peace terms, lest it face further attacks. The missiles were launched by the President’s authority and no one else.
According to an anonymous U.S. official, the strikes were carried out by B-2 bombers, who dropped at least six 30,000-pound bunker busters on Fordo, an Iranian uranium enrichment plant. Submarines fired 30 TLAM cruise missiles at Natanz and Isfahan, two other nuclear facilities.
Mr. Trump warned Iran that any future assault attempts should they fail to make peace. If Iran does not do this, the president suggested that much more of the country could potentially be wiped out by the combined power of Israel and the U.S.
“There will be either peace or there will be tragedy for Iran, far greater than we have witnessed over the last eight days,” he said. “Remember, there are many targets left. Tonight’s was the most difficult of them all, by far, and perhaps the most lethal. But if peace does not come quickly, we will go after those other targets with precision, speed, and skill. Most of them can be taken out in a matter of minutes.”
Iran’s leaders have promised to retaliate against America if they choose to join Israel’s side in the war, and its missiles are within range of certain U.S. military bases, among other potential targets.
It’s a different story for Israel. Despite past disagreements with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, Mr. Trump both thanked and congratulated him in his four-minute speech after the announcement of the strikes against Iran. The President stated that “we worked as a team like perhaps no team has ever worked before.”
