Just a week ago, current US president Donald Trump announced that starting on the 9th of June, citizens from 12 countries will not be allowed to enter the United States of America.
These countries include Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. The 7 countries, Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela – will face a partial ban.
President Trump stated that the measures would help to “protect Americans from dangerous foreign actors,” meaning citizens from the 12 banned countries would have their immigrant and non-immigrant visa’s fully suspended. While the 7 countires that face a partical ban might not be able to apply for a visa’s, but are still able to make temporary ones.
According to Aljazeera News, “For citizens of the 12 fully banned countries, just more than 50,000 green cards were issued in fiscal year 2023, Mittelstadt told Al Jazeera, citing State Department data.” this announcement have impacted mostly countries from Europe and Africa.
Some people agree on this ban but others may not. The BBC News said that “Congressman Clay Higgins of Louisiana told the BBC that travel to the US was “a privilege, not a right.” They see immigrants as a threat to the country while many reviews like the New Yorker think “the Administration is slamming the door on people who are in desperate need of refuge in the U.S.”
