President Trump’s decision to restrict specific country’s citizens causes uproar.
On June 4th, 2025, President Trump announced that citizens from 12 different countries wouldwill be banned from travelling to the US which was enforced with the intent of keeping the whole country safer and protecting Americans.
Many people have spoken out in disagreement withof President’s Trump’s decision and have said that the newly made law “is expected to be challenged in court,” said by some experts at CBBC.
Along with these people, not only Human Rights groups but Politicians from the Democratic Party have spoken out, saying that the “ban betrays the ideals of the USA’s founders.” This means that this restriction goes against the three rights that are written into the Declaration of Independence, “Life, Liberty, and a Pursuit of Happiness.”, according to Wikipedia.
In response to these protests, the President has responded by saying that these new rules are “common sense restrictions which would protect Americans and help keep the country safer.” During the campaign of last year’s election, the President had made illegal immigration a big issue, repeatedly stating that illegal immigrants are a “threat from within and are poisoning the blood of America.”
These rules ban the 12 countries, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. Although these rules may seem unfair, the US has included a few exceptions for people to where these rules will not apply to, such as dual citizens and athletes who that are coming to the US to compete in events. People who are coaches, support staff, and the athlete’s families are spared from the ban as well if they are traveling for major sporting events, such as the World Cup or the Olympics.
A few countries are also named in President Trump’s proclamation, stating that “citizens from 7 different countries – Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela – will face a partial ban” till further notice.
President Trump has made it clear that illegal immigration is a big problem in the United States and has therefore made this ban. However, the backlash against these bans that are “discriminatory and racist” has been immense, even leading to hordes of people having protests in many cities. This ban will have many effects on the country such as by keeping the country safer, or causing the country to lose allies. With many opinions clouding the truth, it will take a bit of time for our people, the US citizens to decide.
