This week President Trump will put his travel ban into effect. This ban will prevent citizens from 12 countries from traveling to the USA. Some authorities and human rights groups resist his ban, saying it’s “cruel”.
President Trump has signed a similar ban back in 2017, which targeted Muslim countries. This caused protests to start all over the country, before Joe Biden became president and got rid of it.
The new ban will restrict citizens from Yemen, Sudan, Somalia, Libya, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Republic of the Congo, and Equatorial Guinea. Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela will be banned partially. This means they must have a certain type of visa to enter the USA.
However, there are some exceptions, such as athletes traveling to sports events and people who are citizens in two countries. This year Trump also took a few steps to stop immigration.
Amnesty International USA says that the ban is “Discriminatory, racist, and downright cruel.” The countries that Trump banned are also protesting the bans. Trump explains, “Sometimes by losing a battle you find a new way to win the war.”
