Tom Cruise has all the traits a movie star wants and none of the characteristics you would expect in a normal human being. As a screen presence, he is independent; as a person, he is impossible to understand, but his ambiguity allows him to achieve a sort of clarified superstardom that you can see in almost all his movies. Who is Tom Cruise, and what is his life story?

The ‘80s and ‘90s were when Tom Cruise started becoming successful. The trouble-making Cruise of “Risky Business,” the genuine, endearingly naïve Cruise of “Cocktail,” and the morally principled Cruise of “Jerry Maguire” were all based on Cruise’s ability to embody and impersonate the American Everyman convincingly. When the 2000s came, Cruise was in more challenging films like “Eyes Wide Shut” and “Magnolia.” Filmmakers like Stanley Kubrick and Paul Thomas Anderson helped Cruise prove himself as a severe and capable actor.

Over the last decade, Cruise has departed from romance and drama and has become planted into the action-adventure genre, perfecting the summer tentpole blockbuster. His films often showcase his athleticism and charisma, but they still show that dramatic fare from his early films. You can witness them in his movies such as “Maverick,” the last couple of “Mission:

Impossible” sequels, and “Edge of Tomorrow” (2014), in which he plays a cowardly, sniveling politician forced to relive the same deadly battle repeatedly — a playful sci-fi take on “Groundhog Day” that found the actor playing against type to delightful effect.

On-screen, Cruise is widely renowned as one of the biggest movie stars. New York Times Reporter Nicole Sperling explained that the last authentic piece of a century-old system that has been eroded by the improved forces of filmmaking and streaming, his powerful Daredevil stunt work and charisma combined, have led to his latest hit “Top Gun: Maverick,” which brought over 1 billion dollars.

However, when Cruise isn’t in the center of the screen, Cruz is elusive. He is highly secretive about the details of his life; he tries to seem like an ordinary guy. When Cruise was asked by Movie bill magazine to describe his most memorable filmgoing experience, Cruise couldn’t think of one. Even when asked which team he was rooting for at a Giants-Dodgers game, he replied, “I’m a fan of baseball.” Tom Cruise works hard in his life and in return allows himself to continue being the best.
