Have you ever wondered what the top Christmas songs are? Well, this year’s top song might sound quite familiar, ‘Last Christmas.’ This iconic song is apparently very popular because, for the first time, a song has been the most popular two years in a row. In the week before Christmas, listeners played this festive carol 12.6 million times, making it number one. A combination of downloads, sales, and streams decides the number one song. Wham’s festive classic beat songs by many other famous creators like Ariana Grande, Gracie Abrams, and Mariah Carey. When the song was first released in 1984, Last Christmas was originally a huge hit but was beaten by other songs. Last year, about 39 years after it was released, it finally reached its goal of being Christmas number one. One of the Wham members, Andrew Ridgeley, thanked all those who had listened to, downloaded and purchased the song. According to the BBC, Andrew Ridgeley said that the song had “become such a classic, almost as much a part of Christmas as mince pies, turkey and pigs in blankets.” The famous and loved pop star Gracie Abrams came in close at number two on the Christmas list with her latest song, ‘That’s So True.’ And Mariah Carey’s festive carol, ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ took the third spot.
