In Montauk, New York, a small ranch has many horses for people to ride as well as many secrets to hide.

Remi Bader, a famous Tik-Tok Star with over 2.1 million followers on the platform, traveled all the way to Montauk to go to Deep Hollow Ranch only to be denied the chance to ride on the horses for weighing too much. After the incident, Remi posted a video of her on her Tik-Tok saying, “Shoutout to Deep Hollow Ranch in Montauk for making me leave because I weigh over 240.” Remi also wrote in the caption, “I’ve rode horses before and have never had this issue. Please advertise this on your signs for the future.”

This Tik-Tok soon became viral, sparking debates all over the internet. Some people sided with the Deep Hollow, pointing out that many ranches have weight limits for riding horses as these animals weren’t designated to carry heavy loads for long periods.

“I book reservations for a trail ride, we do have weight restrictions on riders especially if the trail is muddy,” a person in the comment section noted.

Furthermore, Dr. Deb Bennett, a PhD holder who founded the Equine Studies Institute, says that “Total weight of rider plus tack must not exceed 250 lbs. There is no horse alive, of any breed, any build, anywhere, that can go more than a few minutes with more weight on its back than this. Not even the U.S. Army ever packed a mule heavier than this.”

Things escalated when an employee from Deep Hollow Ranch created a Tik-Tok, saying to the camera, “When you’re not a fat b**ch you can ride at Deep Hollow Ranch.” This sparked an outrage in the comments, causing the company to get review-bombed on Google.

In the end, Remi explained that she shared what happened because she was laughed at for being over the weight limit and was overall, treated very poorly. She stated that the video posted by the Deep Hollow Ranch employee “made it clear that they did not want [her] there because of [her] weight and that [it was] very disappointing.”

There was another group of spectators, who did not put any blame on Remi or the employees’ attitude. Instead, they argued that horses should not be treated as an amusement ride and that they are living creatures that deserved to be treated better rather than be cooped up and be ridden on by people.
