New heat records were set along the east coast, with its fifth day not dipping below 100 degrees. Several cities in the northeast perk up in heat, especially on Sunday, 17th.

Temperatures in Newark hit 101 Fahrenheit, beating 99 degrees set in 2010. It was the 5th day in a row that the heat was at or above a three-digit number. Boston was no better, providing 100 degrees of hot and humid air, beating 98 degrees set way back in 1933.

Other cities are having a hard time too. Providence, Rhode Island, which had a high of 97 degrees, beating its previous high for the day of 94 degrees, set in 1987; and Reading, Pennsylvania, which registered a temperature of 97 degrees are just a few that were named.

Athletes that trained for months were left very disappointed as they wouldn’t be able to go to the Boston Triathlon as it was left postponed at the mercy of the heat. From July, it went to August 21.

From across the states, many feared that the weather would overwhelm power grids. Thus, New York City officers advised everyone to use less energy.

The heat wave caused trouble for millions, but we will manage!
