On June 28th , 2022, 4 men robbed TEFAF (The European Fine Art Fair) and details are under investigation.

TEFAF is The European Fine Art Fair, held in March every year at Maastricht, Netherlands. This year is 35th event of TEFAF, running from Saturday through Thursday. It features 242 dealers.

Many bystanders witnessed the robbery.

Marian Bies-de Wolf, a worker at TEFAF, saw 4 robbers running through the aisles filled with artwork, one of them shattering a glass case.

James Butterwick, a British art dealer, said: “A Dutch fair visitor picked up a vase of flowers and tried to confront the robbers.” He also saw “one of the thieves pull out what appeared to be a gun, which he waved at onlookers.“

It is unclear what was stolen. Dutch police are conducting the investigation. There are total of 4 robbers. Two men from Belgium who were detained by the police. The other men that might be connected to the theft are still at large. Dutch police did not release further information.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time TEFAF has been robbed. Jewelry worth of $1.8 million and $1.3 million was stolen in 2008 and 2010, respectively.
