The water incident

The sunny and warm day reflected the complete opposite of Tyler’s mood as he strolled through the busy, crowded, and noisy streets of Chicago into his office.

After the day was over, Sam saw a man named Colby on a ladder reaching to the top of the door exit.

“What are you doing?” he asked as Colby sat on a ladder twice his height.

“It’s April Fool’s day, remember?” Colby said, starting to hang a bucket at the office entrance door.

“Okay, I have two things to say, one, that does not answer my question. Two, why are you hanging a bucket right above where people are going to walk?” Tyler said.

“You still don’t know? Look, it’s April Fool’s Day tomorrow, which is a day when you prank people for fun, right?

“Right,” said Sam. Colby continued, “And what I am setting up here is a water bucket prank where the first person who walks under it will get a good refreshing splash of natural mineral vitamin water. Are we starting to connect the dots?”

Tyler finally realized what Colby was doing. “Yes, I am starting the dots. The only problem? You are going to get fired!” Tyler screamed loudly.

“Relax, it is just a prank,” said Colby, looking quite confused.

“I have seen these before in the movies. You know what happens? They get fired and potentially fined for third-degree assault!” Tyler said running out of breath.

“That’s just in the movies,” said Colby, “But in real life, they do not care”.

“How do you know!?” Wait, I know, maybe you’ve done this before! You have just been exposed and caught in 4K!”

“I also have two things to say. One, I did not do this before, so the first part of what you said is wrong. Two, the way you said it is just offensive, so will you just please leave me alone?!”

“Fine,” said Tyler, “Suit yourself.” Tyler gathered all of his belongings and took one more look at Colby and exited the building.

When he got back to his apartment, he had pasta for dinner, showered for five minutes, and went to bed. He thought he knew everything, but the only thing that he did not know would cost him his job.

Earlier, during the day, after Tyler had left the office. Colby was quite offended by what Tyler said to him. So, for payback, Colby actually manipulated the security camera and slid a USB of Tyler into it, got off, packed his bags, and left. The next day, as Sam strolled into the building, he heard the sound of screaming.

“Whoever did this is getting fired for good!” shouted the boss as he gathered everyone for inspection.

“Boss, you should probably take a look at the security camera,” said Colby.

The boss took one look at the camera and saw that it was Tyler.

“Tyler, you are….” before the boss could finish his sentence, Tyler said, “Well, before you scream at me, maybe you should check the footprints.

“Good idea,” his boss said.

Colby froze. “Well, we…., we don’t need to do that”.

“Suspect caught! Police arrest him!” shouted his boss. The police came rushing into the building and arrested Colby. “This will come back to bite you!”

“No, it won’t.” Tyler walked over and said, “Are we starting to connect the dots?”

The police yanked Colby out of the building.

As they were walking down the stairs, Tyler went to his desk and took a sip of water.
