each other once again in the 2022 women’s UEFA Euro Finals. Germany has won 21 games out of 27 against England’s soccer team, with the Lionesses only winning two out of the 27 matches. The last time the English faced off against Germany was in the Euro Finals of 2009, with the Germans beating them 6-2. At the time of that loss, English commentator Jacqui Oatley wrote in a blog, “I’m surrounded by the familiar sound of raucous, jubilant Germans. We’ve (the England soccer team) been here before.”

However, there is hope for the Lionesses. They currently have scored more goals than Germany in the tournament with 14 goals, while Germany only has 11. According to former English defender and current sports commentator Alex Scott when asked about their loss in 2009, “The gulf between England and Germany back was massive. We were part-time, they were professional and ruthless.” She also said that other teams “have caught Germany up and are not afraid. There is a different feeling facing them.” Penalties are also feared among the Lionesses. The only penalty shootout they had in the finals was against Germany and they lost.

Both teams have not conceded a single goal from the other team in three matches straight.

Despite England having the home advantage and being the favorite to win, the German side has displayed an impressive performance. All we can do now is watch the finals and see who goes home as the champion. The stadium in which the match is being held has been booked to the max. It would also break the previous record of the most seating in an England home stadium. If the Lionesses win, it would probably be one of the happiest moments in the history for the England women’s soccer team.
