Last Weekend, “Minions: The Rise of Gru” officially released on 4,391 screens in North
American theaters, and it brought in an estimated 108.5 million dollars from ticket sales,
said Universal Pictures.
The new Minions film is likely to become the biggest opening ever for a July Fourth
holiday weekend. The new movie is on track to break the record currently held by
“Transformers: Dark of the Moon”, which made 115.9 million dollars in 2011, earning over
127.9 million dollars at the end of the holiday.
According to The Washington Post, “[Minions: The Rise of Gru] is just the latest in a
string of successes for Universal’s family releases, including “Sing 2”, which has grossed over
$406 million since opening in December, and “The Bad Guys”, which has made over $243
million.”
For a long time, there was the idea that family audiences were not going to return to the
theater as the Pandemic emerged. However, the result of these successful movies speaks for
itself, and we can put that idea to rest.
