“Kylie! Is that you?”
”You sound familiar, do I know you- Lily-Mae? I haven’t seen you in years!”
“It’s actually you! I finally got the chance to visit, since my school is on break right now. How’s stuff for you, Kay?”
“School sucks, you know? In math right now, I don’t even know where the numbers are anymore! Why can’t we go back to 1+1=2, man?”
“Wait, your school is already on that type of algebra already? No way. My school is so behind, I genuinely can’t believe how easy everything is. It’s so crazy how different schools teach at different speeds.”
”Yeah, it’s wild. How’s life in America, Lily?”
“Oh. Uhh, going well, I mean it’s going well. I have a few friends, I guess. School’s pretty easy. How’s school for you, Kylie?”
”To me, it sounds like moving away was kind of tough, and stuff. Not like that’s a bad thing. I would be mad if I had to move away from the place I’ve lived in my entire life.. I’m sure you’re probably doing fine, but I’m kind of worried, because you changed the topic so quickly. We can talk about it, if you want.”
“Yeah, we can talk about it. Also, we’re kind of just standing on the sidewalk, so wanna sit down?”
“Yeah. Let’s go find a seat.”
“So, my new school is really weird. The social hierarchy is soooo complicated, and it feels really awkward to not know anyone. People don’t talk to you! But I do have friends, and my grades aren’t that bad, just I hate that feeling of not being heard by everyone. What about you, Kylie?”
“Oh yeah. A bunch of new people came last year, and it was the weirdest thing ever. The school just decided to disrupt our grade’s community by introducing 20, yes 20, new people! Everything just got so awkward!”
“That also happened this year at my school! It was so bad. It just ruined the terrible environment even more!”
“I know, right? Wait a second. I have to get groceries. My mom is blowing up my phone right now. I’m scared that she’s going to show up and yell “KYLIE! WHAT’S TAKING YOU SO LONG?” in my face in the middle of the street.”
“Sounds rough. Good luck with that. See you around, Kylie!”
“You, too, Lily-Mae!”
