“So where do we go from here, Crystal?” Natilie said while looking at the map.
“What about the Fire tribe first, then the Air tribe? Sound good?” I asked, as I observed our surroundings. Natilie nodded her head.
“What time do you think we will reach the Fire tribe?” I asked worriedly.
“Probably minutes before dusk, so about 8:30-ish,” Natilie said with a tone of confusion.
“Where is the trail or where are we going?” I asked.
“There is a trail on your right to the Fire tribe, I think.” Natilie said. I looked to my right and there was a big trail with bright wild vines and flowers along the side. Natilie tapped my shoulder, signaling for me to go. I took one step in and everything felt different, like I was somewhere else. I was in a big jungle with vines all over the place, trees taller than a giraffe, flowers of different shades and colors. I searched around then realized I couldn’t find Natilie.
”Natilie!” Where are you?” I shouted in panic.
“Behind you, silly goose!” Natile said, chuckling.
My heart was racing, and I turned around and found her upside-down hanging on a vine. I asked, “Is it just me or is it somewhere different?”
“I felt that too. And the map is different, see?” Natilie said as she held up the map. I took it from her hand and saw that we were on the map. There were two dots, one blue and one green. The blue dot was me, and the green dot Natilie. Then I saw that we were halfway already to the Fire tribe. I flipped the map over to see if anything changed there too, and it now said “Map of destiny.”
Natilie had a confused look on her face and whispered “Map of Destiny, that sounds very familiar. It might be from a book, or a title, or…I KNOW! It’s one of the fairy tales/ legends my mom told me about.” I thought about the stories. I knew which one Natilie was talking about. It was the Tale that told us how the Map worked.
“In the story my mom told me, the map leads you to your destiny and it was made by the first elves before they went separate, right?” Natlie said in a bossy tone. “Maybe the portal thing or whatever it is turned the map into the Map of Destiny.” I looked at the map again and realized there was a red dot with no label on top. I looked up at Natilie and she also seemed to notice the red figure on the map.
“What if that person is our friend, since this is the Map of Destiny, right? Maybe that’s our friend we’re supposed to find.” Natilie thought about the idea and then she looked like her mind had exploded.
“OMG! You might be right! We have to find him, but how?” Natilie got back to thinking about how to find the person.
“Let’s continue walking,” I said. “We might get there early and then eat dinner, because I am not trying to lose weight.” Natilie giggled and we continued. “Look! Natilie, I think we are here and the red dot isn’t that far and he’s not moving,” I said excitedly, “I think that he might be at his house, so that would mean that we can visit him tomorrow.”
I looked around the frivolous plants surrounding the black island with a HUGE volcano in the middle. Natilie was looking at the map.
“The map changed again. It shows us a red person, and the surroundings have changed.” She pointed out that there was the volcano on the map and plants around the black land. We both decided to eat and camp at the plant part of the land. We ate our snack and dinner after we set up our tent.
“Wow! This tent is massive!” I said as I looked inside. “It is the size of my house.”
“I knew that my dad said it would be big, but it is huge,” Natilie said. We put our sleeping bags inside and slept till it was morning.
