A week ago, a peculiar pink glow appeared in the sky of an Australian town called Mildura. In the area, nobody has ever seen a pink glow in the sky, so many thought it was either an alien invasion or some natural phenomenon. What was that strange pink glow?

“I thought that was very strange. My first thought was there has to be a logical reason for this,” said Anna Webster. In fact, the pink glow was actually from a medical cannabis facility on the outskirts of Mildura that accidentally revealed its undisclosed location while testing out the LED lights. They reflected off the clouds of the night sky, creating an eerie scene for 56,000 residents. The company uses a blackout curtain red-spectrum LED light to encourage plant growth. But on Wednesday, the blackout curtains were left open for some time, creating apink glow in the sky.

In 2016, Australia legalized the cultivation of marijuana for research and medical purposes. In Australia, about 70,000 people use medicinal marijuana for relief, bringing the estimated income close to $160 million in 2021. Australians mostly use marijuana for pain, anxiety, and sleep problems.

It didn’t take long before people started to notice the pink glow in the sky. “I was driving home, and it was dark, and I noticed a very unusual, quite large pink glow,” said Anne Webster, a lawmaker who represents the area in Australia’s Parliament. To many people, the light was abnormal but still somehow delightful. “It is very bizarre, this huge pink light in the sky,” Tammy Szumowski said. “I’m trying not to freak out because I’ve got my girls in the car.”

The pink light in the sky was a very bizarre situation for many citizens. Even though it was a mistake, hopefully, it won’t happen again.
