The final pennies have been minted
On November 12, 2025, the US Mint, after 232 years, made the final pennies. President Trump made this decision because each penny costs 3.69 cents to produce and is only worth one cent.
Last year, the U.S. Mint produced 3.2 billion pennies. Now, the U.S. Mint is expected to save $56 million by stopping the production of pennies.
The U.S. Mint marked the last 5 pennies with an Omega(Ω) symbol. The Omega symbol is the last letter in the Greek alphabet and is often used to mark the end of something. These pennies will be auctioned off on December 11. An expert says that they could be worth over 1 million dollars.
If people ask, can you still use pennies to buy things? The answer is yes. You may continue to use pennies to buy things. It’s just that the U.S. Mint is going to stop producing them.
The mint is also going to auction 232 sets of Omega pennies to collectors. These 3 penny sets will contain 2 normal omega pennies and a penny made out of gold.
