“Wait a second,” This can’t be right. It’s 7 AM, and I’m in front of my school gates. There‘s nobody here. I checked the schedule, and there’s 100 percent class today. There’s absolutely no way that it’s a holiday today. I’m just going to check the schedule one more time.
Yeah, there’s school today. Wait. The first class is at 8:30 PM AT NIGHT!? Since when was this a thing? The streets also look awfully empty today- Oh my god, am I dreaming?
“Hi, Ace!” A voice yells from the corridor of my house. My cat is talking to me. MY CAT. This cannot be real.
“Bob, why are you talking.“
“Oh, am I not supposed to be able to speak? I thought this was normal.”
“I’m gonna go into my room until school starts.” I scoff. School starting at night! Younger me would have loved this!
Fast forward to morning- I mean night. I’m going downstairs to eat breakfast (Is it still called breakfast?) when I see my mom. I’m about to wave, when I notice that she’s walking backwards. It seems like she’s making bread. The bread is unbaking itself in the oven. I’m so confused right now.
“Mom, what’s happening?”
“Ace! You’re up early! I’m just making lunch-“
“WHAT? LUNCH? It seems like everything’s going backwards today. Wait a second. No way,” I say in disbelief. My mom gives me a side eye as she hands me a plate of seeds, wheat, and what looks like tomato flowers. I don’t think this is edible. I smile awkwardly at my mom, and take my bag to go to school.
School at last. 8:30 PM heading for my first class. Did I mention that the school bus drove backwards too? Everyone in sight is also jogging backwards to get to their classrooms. The birds and squirrels are having full-on arguments in the trees. This is terrible.
School’s over now. I’m on the backwards school bus going home. Everything really is backwards today! In English, we were expected to write sentences in reverse order using our non-dominant hand, and, in Science, we did chemistry backwards. We took the finished experiment, and pulled out chemicals until the mixture was a bunch of different chemicals! I hope this never, EVER happens again. Thinking of it, today was actually kind of interesting. Fun, even!
