The legendary Argentinian football player, Diego Maradona, passed away on November 2020 due to a heart attack in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Now, Argentine prosecutors have set off to investigate the doctors and nurses involved in his care.

Diego Maradona is commonly referred to one of the greatest footballers to ever play football. In 1986, Argentina won the World Cup with Maradona as captain. The famous play known as “Hand of God” was scored against England in the 1986 World Cup.

On November 25. 2020, Diego Maradona sadly passed away in his house due to a blood clot. The blood clot resulted in a severe heart attack which cost Maradona’s life.

In 2021, 20 experts tasked to examine Maradona’s death found the medical team acted in an “inappropriate, deficient, and reckless manner” according to the BBC. They also concluded that Maradona would have had a higher chance of survival if treated appropriately.

Neurosurgeon and personal doctor, Leopoldo Luque, two other doctors, two nurses, and their boss all denied responsibility for Maradona’s death. Luque said, “[I did] everything [I] could, up to the impossible.”

According to BBC, all eight people from Maradona’s medical team will be set on trial on a legal definition of homicide based on negligence committed in the knowledge that it may lead to a person’s death. Referring to Argentina’s penal code, the crime can hold a sentence of eight to 25 years in prison.
