Taylor Swift Now Owns All Her Music
On Friday, May 5, 2025, 35-year-old Taylor Swift, a famous pop singer, announced that she had purchased the master recordings of her first six albums, putting her albums under her control for the first time since they were sold to record executive Scooter Braun in 2019.
Taylor Swift’s last concert tour, called the Eras Tour, shattered records, spawned a blockbuster hit concert film, and sold thousand dollar tickets. The Eras Tour made Taylor Swift a billionaire. Swift credits the nearly two-year tour with helping her “greatest dream come true,” her dream of becoming the owner of all her music.
Swift shared the news in a post on her website, where she thanked her fans for the financial support that helped make the sale possible. The financial terms of the deal were not released, but Taylor Swift has been working extremely hard over the past few years to generate the cash necessary to make the purchase.
Since 2021, Swift has been releasing re-recorded versions of her early albums, each dubbed with the subtitle “Taylor’s Version.” Her Era’s Tour, which sold tickets for tens of thousands of dollars, is by far the tour that earned the most money so far. Each of Taylor Swift’s concerts or tours earn million of dollars.
With Taylor Swift finally owning all her music, she can continue re-recording her early albums (which she already started doing). This sends a message to other singers the importance of securing their own music so they have more control over how it’s used, without needing to go through other authority.
