Women’s Rugby World Cup: What’s Going On?
The Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 is being held in England with 16 teams -an expansion- whereas it was 12 before. The favorites to win this season are the Red Roses from England. The other eight matches will be across England while the final venue will be held at Twickenham Stadium. These places include Brighton & Hove, Bristol, Exeter, London, Manchester, Northampton, Sunderland, and York.
Over 300,000 tickets have already been sold for the event. This amount of sales and audience exceeds the number of the previous tournament in New Zealand. The demand has even led to a release of additional tickets. Roughly 35% of ticket purchasers are attending a professional women’s rugby match for the first time! Women’s sport has been gaining popularity as BBC Sport is streaming every game globally.
Is It Soccer or Football? None, It’s Rugby
Rugby is a team sport played with an oval shaped ball where two teams score points by kicking it into the other team’s goal –a mix between a soccer net and a football goal–, carrying, and passing to one another. Teams have 15 players and their objective is to carry the ball to the opponents goal -where there is a line-, touch the ground, and score a point called a try, which is worth five points. Players are also able to tackle and score many different points where it isn’t just five points. If you are interested, learn more about it at usa.rugby.
Rugby is not only a sport, but it also requires excellent team work. Teammates need to work together to pass the ball, move it forward, and provide or seek opportunities to score. Rugby requires agility, strength, resilience, and most importantly, teamwork. Rugby might sound easy, but once you play it for yourself, you might change your mind.
