FIFA Club World Cup
June is the start of the FIFA Club World Cup. The opening match of the Club World Cup was hosted on Sunday, June 15, and the final match will be on Sunday, July 13. It will take place all across the United States and in 11 cities.
The FIFA Club World Cup is an international football tournament organized by FIFA. This year, a new updated version of the Club World Cup has come out. Previously, the annual tournament had 7 teams competing, and now there will be 32 teams. The tournament will be held every 4 years.
32 teams will be split into 8 groups, each consisting of 4 teams. Each team will play the other 3 teams once, then the top two teams from each group with advance into the round of 16 teams. The winners of each match in the round of 16 will continue to advance to the round of 8, then the semi-finals, and finally the finals.
The most recent Club World Cup champions were Manchester City, who won the 2023 Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia. They beat Fluminense, a Brazilian team, 4-0 in the finals and held the Club World Cup trophy for the first time. Four British teams have gotten the champion in the Club World Cup: Manchester United in 2008, Liverpool in 2019, Chelsea in 2022, and lastly Manchester City in 2023.
There will be famous football stars playing in the FIFA Club World Cup. FIFA president Gianni Infantino said, “There are discussions” whether Cristiano Ronaldo will be playing at the Club World Cup. FIFA allowed an extension of time from June 1-10, so teams could sign deals in time for the tournament. There is a chance that the British football player Jude Bellingham will play against his brother, Jobe Bellingham.
With participation expanded to expansion of 32 teams participating, the FIFA Club World Cup will be an exciting tournament across the United States, and many people look forward to watching it.
