FIFA Club World Cup Takes Place This Month
The FIFA Club World Cup starts this month. It includes 32 teams, including Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Chelsea. They will head to the US for a four-week competition. It was previously an annual tournament contested by 7 teams. However, the FIFA Club World Cup will feature more teams from all six FIFA confederations and occur every four years.
The FIFA Club World Cup matches will take place in 12 different stadiums across 11 cities. It will be a taste of what will happen in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The World Cup will also take place in the US as well as Canada, and Mexico. The 2025 Club World Cup began on Sunday, 15 June, with the final on Sunday, 13 July. The opening match sees Lionel Messi’s team, Inter Miami, take on Al Ahly at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
The tournament is split into eight groups of four teams. In the beginning, the teams play a round-robin, and the top two teams from each group proceed to the round of 16. From then on, it proceeds like a regular draw. The winners of each round move on while the losers are eliminated.
The current champions are Manchester City, winning who won the 2023 tournament in Saudi Arabia. They are playing in Group G and will start on June 18 against Wydad in Philadelphia. You can expect to see Messi. There are also chances that you can see Cristiano Ronaldo, Jude Bellingham, and Jobe Bellingham. Although this tournament may seem fun, FIFA is facing legal action over the scheduling of the tournament. Fifpro and the top European Leagues say the football calendar is too busy and “risks player safety and wellbeing.” Players have also raised concerns about player well-being amid the busy football schedule.
