Seven NBA Teams Make a Deal Involving Kevin Durant
The Houston Rockets and Phoenix Suns trade involving Kevin Durant includes the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, and Minnesota Timberwolves, making it the largest NBA trade in history. The Houston Rockets announced this deal on July 6th, 2025, which was agreed upon in June but is awaiting finalization. According to Fred Katz, who wrote an article in The Athletic, this put several trades into one huge deal; as a result, six players will change teams.
Kevin Durant won two NBA championships (2017, 2018) with the Warriors and was named NBA Finals MVP twice. He received the NBA Most Valuable Player award in 2014 and is a 15-time NBA All-Star. He also represented the United States in the Olympics, winning four Olympic gold medals.
Durant on X said, “My time in Phoenix has come to an end. All these stops along the journey have really impacted me in a positive way.” He goes on to say, “I appreciate all the quick interactions with everybody from support staff to teammates, distant cousins, it’s all a family that I’m grateful to be a part of, no matter what. I truly believe this NBA is one big community. Much love to Arizona. Houston, Can’t Wait!”
In this deal, Durant will be going to Houston from Phoenix, and Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks will be traded from Houston to Phoenix. The Rockets will trade David Roddy to Atlanta for Clint Capela.
Rockets coach Ime Udoka said, “Having played against Kevin and coached him before, I know he’s the type of competitor who fits with what we’ve been building here in Houston.” Also, he said, “His skill level, love of basketball, and dedication to his craft have made him one of the most respected players of his generation, and my staff and I are excited to work with him.”
Due to the NBA collective bargaining agreement, the teams had to wait until July 6 to make the trade official. Even if the teams agreed to it earlier. This explains why the trade was not announced until July 6th.
This trade includes the most teams in NBA history. Before this, the most teams to be a part of a deal were in the 2024 Summer. Klay Thompson went to the Dallas Mavericks from the Warriors. Even before that, in 2021, five teams agreed to a trade that sent Russel Westbrook from the Washington Wizards to the Lakers.
Great work 🙂
