Coco Gauff Claims Second Grand Slam Title

On Saturday, June 7th, Coco Gauff won the French Open, her second Grand Slam, against women’s number one tennis player, Aryna Sabalenka.

Almost two years after the 2023 U.S. Open, Gauff won the French Open, an amazing feat at only 21 years old. According to The Washington Post, Sabalenka had been in better form than Gauff. Despite that, Coco Gauff beat the odds and claimed her second Grand Slam singles title at the 2025 French Open. After two grueling hours and thirty-eight minutes of fighting hard against Sabalenka, Coco Gauff finally prevailed, claiming the French Open title.

Coco Gauff is often described as being determined and confident on the outside. However, she is extremely nervous on the inside but fights hard to stay calm during her matches, even while making many mistakes. That’s largely because Gauff gets her frustrations out before matches.

“I know how important it is for me to let out those emotions so that when I come on the match court I can try and be as calm as possible,” Gauff stated. “I’m more cool-headed in matches. But in practice, I can get pretty upset.”

In contrast, Sabalenka was visibly frustrated during the match, screaming at her coaches and complaining about how windy the day was. As the game went on, Aryna Sabalenka became more irritated with herself, accumulating a growing number of unforced errors.

Before winning the 2023 U.S. Open, Gauff was not just a tennis player; she was a TikTok star, showing off her Gen-Z female strength. Between the 2023 U.S. Open and the 2025 French Open, she had five more opportunities at a second, but the closest she had come was only two semifinals. Gauff had heard that the French Open gave her the best chance to win another Grand Slam.

“I felt like if I went through my career and didn’t get at least one of these, I would feel

regrets,” she said to The Athletic.
