In a suburb of Chicago, somebody was super lucky and won the $1.34 billion jackpot on Friday! The chance of winning a jackpot is 1 in 302.5 million.

The ticket was bought at a Speedway gas station/convenience store in Des Plaines, according to megamillions.com. 13-36-45-47-67, Mega Ball: 14 were the winning numbers.

The current Lead Director at the Mega Millions Consortium, Pat McDonald, said in a statement, “We are thrilled to have witnessed one of the biggest jackpot wins in Mega Millions history. We’re eager to find out who won and look forward to congratulating the winner soon!”

This jackpot is the third most expensive lottery in the nation! With 29 consecutive draws without a winner beginning on April 15, the price grew large and reached $1.34 billion.

There are certain rules for the jackpot. When somebody wins, he/she must sign their ticket. If he/she drops it and somebody else picks it up and signs it, then the ticket is theirs. Emily Irwin is trying to persuade people who win to keep it safe. “Take a Polaroid of you holding it and (put) it in a safe deposit box or somewhere else safe.”

“There are scammers and others who follow big winners,” said Irwin, the managing director for Wells Fargo’s Wealth & Investment Management. “This is not the time to start calling everybody you know, saying, ‘Hey, I have big secret. Can you keep it?’ Privacy equals safety.”

Pratik Patel, head of the Family Wealth Strategies at BMO Family Office, recommends people that they should plan what to do with the money. The winner should think carefully before they spend the money. “You can absolutely indulge but let’s be smart about it. It’s a lot of money but until you figure out what you can afford, there are still limitations.”
