Global researchers have been thinking about making future advances in robotics for decades, but now they are looking through a new avenue: clothing.

The idea of robotic clothes was inspired by the movie, “The Wrong Trousers,” when a pair of futuristic pants happened to have the ability to let people walk on walls and ceilings. Based on this idea, English researchers created what they called “The Right Trousers,” a set of pants with electrical pumps that force air into expanded tiny tubes that could help the elderly and disabled with health issues.

Now, fabric designers are trying to create fibers for robotic clothing that could move automatically.

Rebecca Kramer-Bottiglio, the professor of mechanical engineering at Yale University, had always agreed that fabrics will need time to reach their fullest potential to help society and around the world. She states that, “It will be challenging to make these clothes, filled with fibers and technology, durable enough to withstand multiple cycles in the laundry.”

Scientists and researchers are working hard to make robotic clothing that can help shape the future.
