Just recently on Tuesday, Serena Williams announced she will be coming back to

Wimbledon, making her 21st appearance. Williams was forced to stay out of tennis due

to an injury in her leg. Now, Williams’s injury has healed, and she will now continue her

career as a tennis player.

Serena Williams has won many awards, such as Best Female Tennis Player, NAACP

Image Award, Laureus World Sports Award, Associated Press Female Athlete of the

Year, People’s Choice Award for Favorite Game, Three Grand Slam Tournament

Champions, and more.

Last year, Williams faced a serious ankle injury in the first round of Wimbledon. Due to

this injury, Williams was unable to continue all year. Williams states, “You never want

any match to end like that. It’s really unfortunate, but it was definitely something that’s

always been at the top of my mind.” However, this year, she is back and at it, and is

ready to win.

When asked about what outcome she wanted out of this year’s Wimbledon, she said,

“You know the answer to that.” Williams’s coach, Eric Hechtman said, “She’s a

champion, right? And she’s playing Wimbledon for a reason. Just like I think anybody

that walks into the tournament, their goal is to win the event. And that’s our goal.”

Williams’s personal life has not been easy either. Her daughter, Olympia, who is four, as

well as her business occupation has kept her busy.

As Williams states, “A part of me feels like that is a little bit more of my life now

than tournaments. When you do have a venture company, you do have to go all in. It

definitely takes literally all my extra time. And it’s fun. I’m currently out of office for the

next few weeks, so if you email me, you’ll get a nice ‘out of office’ reply. Everyone

knows that I’ll be back in a few weeks. But it’s good.”
