After tearing her hamstring last Wimbledon, Serena Williams has made her return to her first Grand Slam in over a year. She will be making her return in this year’s Wimbledon, which will be her 21st time participating in the competition, seven of those which she has won.

Williams no longer trains with from Patrick Mouratoglou, the renowned coach from France, and is now coached by former University of Miami player Eric Hechtman, who also currently also coaches Serena’s older sister, Venus.

This is Hechtman’s first tournament with Serena, and he wants to make the best out of it. “Just like I think anybody that walks into the tournament, their goal is to win the event. And that’s our goal,” he says.

Ever since her last time in London, Williams has been busy taking care of her 4-year-old daughter Olympia. Also, her capital firm, Serena Ventures, has been taking up much of her time.

When asked about recent political topics, Williams hasn’t given much of an answer to them. Many well-known women have been open about the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade overruling.

For example, Coco Gauff, an American tennis star who recently was the finalist at Roland Garros, has been using her fame as an advantage to speak out to people about recent political issues. She said, “I still want to encourage people to use their voice and not feel too discouraged about this because we can definitely make a change.” However, Serena has remained silent, stating, “I don’t have any thoughts that I’m ready to share right now on that decision.”

Williams considers herself a Jehovah’s Witness, a faith whose followers are Christians and who think that the Bible tells them to not get involved in too much politics.

Aside from politics, most tennis fans have been wondering when Williams would retire. Her response to that question leaves us on a cliffhanger. “You know, I don’t know. I can only tell you that I’m here. Who knows where I’ll pop up next? You’ve just got to be ready,” Serena says.
