Scientists Make Toothpaste Out of Sheep’s Wool
Scientists in King’s College London have made a toothpaste out of sheep’s wool to repair enamel on teeth because adult teeth can’t repair themselves if they are damaged. keratin was mixed with spitenamel-like structure. Then, the fake enamel could be applied to teeth as a toothpaste.
The toothpaste can repair teeth that have been broken down by applying the toothpaste to the teeth. Normal toothpaste can add more minerals on teeth, but can’t repair them completely. “A material as strong as natural enamel,” quotes Dr. Elsharkawy, a scientist involved in the experiment. He also says keratin has a structure that can guide minerals into forming enamel-like crystals.
They made this special toothpaste to repair the enamel on the adult teeth that have been damaged by some foods or drinks. The human body can’t produce more of the enamel, causing the chances of rotting teeth to grow higher. When the enamel on the teeth is all worn out, the nerves in the teeth can feel more painful and uncomfortable.
Scientists at King’s College London have already made a new company to try and make this happen, and they are very interested in creating this new type of toothpaste. The scientists are also very excited because keratin can be extracted from hair. One day, there could be a new kind of toothpaste sourced from human hair.
