Is AI Going To Be the Future of "Googling"?
As we learn, it starts to create questions in our minds. The easiest way to answer those questions ourselves is by, as we call it, googling. This search engine allows us to research across all websites, deepening our learning. It is also the quickest, as it only takes a couple of seconds for the search to load. However, a main problem with googling is that it will only give you resources to look into. So, a lot of work still has to be done by yourself to find the exact answer you were looking for. On the other hand, AI can answer exactly what your question was in seconds without all the extra work done by yourself. For that reason, I believe that AI will replace googling.
In our current society, people prefer efficiency over extra work to be done. Unlike how you use Google, Brian X. Chen explains in his experience with AI from his The New York Times article, he states that AI “immediately pulled from the video’s transcript to produce a summary of the top contenders, sparing me the need to watch the entire thing.” The use of AI to create summaries, recaps, and questions to test your learning shows the various tools that can enhance your understanding of the video or text. We can utilize AI in numerous ways to help us, much more than what Google can provide.
You might say that AI can sometimes be inaccurate or that it doesn’t provide credible sources when searching, but both can be avoided, especially as technology improves over time. The chance of AI providing inaccurate information is slim, as it is pre-programmed and won’t contain human opinions or errors, which may occur in articles and websites. As the development of AI progresses, technical errors will be identified and corrected, thereby enhancing AI’s capabilities and accuracy. If not providing named sources is a problem, then take initiative yourself to tell AI exactly what you want it to do, whether it is to give you specific websites where you can find the information from or the author from which it got its facts. As of today, AI is more beneficial to our society in terms of efficiency and, soon, accuracy.
