The World’s Largest Camera
The Legacy Survey of Space and Time, or the LSST camera at the Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile, captured stunning pictures of space during September of 2020.
The detailed views of star-forming regions like the Trifid and Lagoon Nebulae, which are areas where stars are born and form. There are also pictures of distant galaxies in the Virgo Cluster, which is 100 billion times bigger than the Milky Way. The LSST, which is attached to a powerful telescope, is the world’s largest and highest-resolution digital camera. The camera is the size of a car but way more detailed than smartphones.
On a mountaintop for a good view, the LSST will take 1,000 images every night for the next 10 years, creating a time-lapse of the universe. Its mission is to record 20 billion galaxies and help answer questions about dark matter, the Milky Way, and a ninth planet. The gigantic camera will help us understand way more about our universe.
