Title?
A Japanese company has launched their second robotic lander called Resilience to the moon in 2025, but it failed again just like the first one in 2023. It was presumed that the Resilience spacecraft have crashed in the northern hemisphere of the lunar near side.
The first robotic aircraft made it to the moon in 2023, but crashed while it was trying to land on the moon. The second robotic aircraft was launched in January 2025. As of last month, Ispace lost contact with the aircraft. They think it has to do with how high Resilience was above the surface because it might have been way to high, and was slow in making its measurements, which may have contributed to the problem. Resilience was supposed to land in the middle of a lava plain known as Mare Frigoris, or Sea of Cold. This is because, NASA wanted to see the different types of soil. It was trying to collect 2 different soil samples, would be scooped up by the rover, the other from material that settles on the spacecraft’s landing pads. They would then be sold to the NASA agency for $5,000 each.
Since the 2cd aircraft failed, Ispace is thinking of new ways to make the new aircraft to land and not crash. It could lead NASA to rethink its plans to use a larger Ispace-designed lander for a mission to take science experiments to the far side of the moon. These aircrafts are designed to be cheap. The next aircraft date is set for 2027, we don’t know what month yet.
NASA will make an aircraft achieve a successful landing one day. We can only wait and see if the 2027 aircraft will be successful and land on the moon and bring back the soil samples.
