Astronomers have discovered the fastest star in the Milky Way called S4716. The star orbited the back hole in only 4 years. That is the fastest time ever recorded in the Milky Way. To complete that orbit, S4716 travelled 23.5 million kilometers at a speed of 5000 miles per second.

S4716 was discovered by researchers at University of Cologne and Masaryk University, who have been doing research for the last twenty years. The teams used five telescopes to spot the star. Four of the telescopes were combined into one telescope and then the fifth one operated on its own.

Fun Fact

A black hole is a dying star that has collapsed inward under the pressure of its own weight.
