On Saturday, thousands of people marched to the White House in protest of the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

The citizens who were protesting were part of the Women’s March organization pressuring President Joe Biden to take executive action of protecting abortion rights.

Although there were risks and no guarantees to this march, the women thought it was better than nothing. If they don’t take action, approximately 40 million women of reproductive age will lose access to abortion rights in a few weeks.

Women of older generations fear for their female children and grandchildren, who are at the greatest risk of all.

“There’s nothing, to me, more worth fighting for than this cause – our fundamental rights to have bodily autonomy,” said Lauren Pierce, a 33 year old attorney from Dallas, traveling an approximate 1,300 miles to attend the march. “If that means taking up space and getting arrested then I think it’s worth it.”

It has been estimated that 10,000 people were present at the protest that day. All for the same reason, hoping for the same result.

The march was filled by feelings of frustration, anger, and disappointment.

“I’m terrified,” Collen Lunsford, 42, a lawyer from Arlington, Va. said while bringing her 5-year-old daughter, Orla. “We did our best to elect a Democratic president and House and Senate, and this is still happening.”

She is marching for her young daughter.

The White House is not the only place where there was a protest. More than 450 marches took place in cities nationally on that same day, including Chicago, Nashville, and Austin, Texas.

“Yesterday was a good first step, but it’s just that, a first step,” said Rachel O’Leary Carmona, the Women’s March executive director, a contributor in the crowd of protestors Saturday. “We know there are limits to President Biden’s authority, but we want him to push that authority to the limit.”
