Famous football club Liverpool landed in Thailand on Sunday, a day after their main rival Manchester United. The two teams square off on Tuesday before heading to Australia for preseason games. By the time Liverpool manger Jurgen Klopp and his team were read to leave the airport, over a thousand fans were present.

Liverpool Football Club is a professional football club in Liverpool, England that competes in the Premier League, the top tier of English football. Domestically, the club has won nineteen League titles, seven FA Cups, a record eight League Cups and fifteen FA Community Shields.

Klopp led his players in honoring their Thai hosts in the traditional welcome ceremony. The scene became chaotic as the press conference table got set up. The barrier that the media was supposed to stay behind was ignored and officials unsuccessfully attempted to clear the space for questions to be asked in an orderly fashion.

The reception for England’s biggest football clubs is unique in the Far East. Liverpool fans were waiting hours before their arrival. Hundreds had gathered two hours before their land. Some fans were 50 yards away and probably didn’t even get to see their heroes, the short distance from the exit of the VIP room to the team bus.

“We respect United a lot, but when we meet them, we want to beat them,” Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp told a news conference. It will be the first such match between overseas clubs hosted in Thailand since the pandemic began and is part of the teams’ pre-season tours before the Premier League season begins next month.

“I have never been to a press conference like this,” Klopp said as he was presented with a ball. “Thank you for the really warm welcome. It is only my second time in Thailand, the first was an hour on the way to Sydney. Hopefully I get time to spend in the city this time.”
