Sea explorers recently used a remotely operated submarine and found patterns of holes in the deep sea along a volcanic ridge at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.
On July 23, north of the Azores, near Portugal’s mainland, the dive mission found a dozen sets of holes resembling a track of lines on the ocean floor at a depth of 1.6 miles. And then, after a week, on Thursday, scientists discovered four more sets of holes in the underwater terrain where three tectonic plates meet, the Azores Plateau. The holes we a mile deep and 300 miles away from the first place discovered the holes.
However, scientists don’t know how to explain the existence of those patterns of holes. The only possible way is that the scientists have encountered a similar structure of the holes, and those holes are “lebensspuren,” German for “life traces, which infers that the holes are done by some living organism.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Ocean Exploration project has posted a Twitter saying, “The origin of the holes has scientists stumped…The holes look human-made, but the little piles of sediment around them suggest they were excavated by something.”
“There is something important going on there, and we don’t know what it is,” mentioned Michael Vecchione, a NOAA deep-sea biologist involved in this latest expedition. He added, “This highlights the fact that there are still mysteries out there.”
Overall, there are many mysterious events on the earth that we cannot explain. The mysterious events will keep people to stay with their curiosity and keep finding more impressive facts about the world we’re living in.
