Conan Gray, a very talented and experienced singer, has been gaining global fame since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic hit.

Gray was born in Lemon Grove, California to a Caucasian dad and a Japanese mom who divorced early on in his life. His childhood was constantly full of moving from city to city, and ultimately, he ended up in Rockdale, a largely unpopulated Texas city.

During his time in Texas, Gray decided to post a video of him singing “Those Days”, which he wrote himself, after watching Adele post a video of her singing in her bedroom. This was the start of his Youtube career, where he would post many videos about his life.

He managed to attract a couple hundred thousand followers, but what he didn’t realize is that his song “Idle Town” would eventually be a hit. In 2017, the video blew up online and soon, he dropped out of college at U.C.L.A. and signed with Republic Records. “They saw what we saw,” said Wintle, “which is the belief that he could be a huge star. And they were very open to making sure that they weren’t trying to mold him into something that he wasn’t.”

In his music, Gray sings about his cheerful yet troubled life and the heartbreaking feelings young people have to face, with one of the primary feelings being love. Sometimes, these emotions are a lot to talk about, and Gray has experienced this while making some of his music, stating that this album “wasn’t fun to make.”

Ever since Gray was small, he enjoyed music that he felt brought out deep emotions. He wrote his first song when he was 7 in Rockdale.

Gray has gained much a lot of popularity since the release of his first album. “Part of what makes Conan is the way he’s connecting so directly to this entire generation of kids who grew up on the internet,” says Eddie Wintle, who manages Gray with his wife.

As Gray says, he uses music as a way to tell “people to feel a little less crazy in all the emotions that they feel right now.”
