Vance Bolter’s politically motivated killings
On June 14, 2025, Saturday, Vance Bolter killed former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband and shot John Hoffman and his wife. American politician and member of the Minnesota Senate in Hennepin County, Minnesota.
Around 2:00 a.m. CDT Boelter attempted to kill John Hoffman and his wife, Yvetle Hoffman, but luckily they survived after their daughter called 911. After Boelter fled the scene, approximately 3:35 a.m. Vance Boelter fatally shot Mark Hortman and his wife, Melissa Hortman.
In the late evening of Sunday, June 15 Vance Boelter was captured near Green Isle, Minnesota after a manhunt that lasted 2 days. 20 SWAT teams surrounded him, and he surrendered with no force required.
The murders left residents of Minnesota and other politicians rattled.
Bolter Initially was charged on two counts of second-degree murder for the murders of Ms. Hortman and her husband, Mark Hortman. He was also charged with attempted second-degree murder for Mr. Hoffman and his wife, Mrs. Hoffman.
Boelter’s motive was political violence mixed with religious extremism and personal despair.
These murders were not just acts of random violence, it was acts against people who supported abortion rights and LGBTQ rights. He thought these people were evil. For Boelter it was mostly Spiritual.
