Wimbledon: The British Are Gone
At the 2nd Largest Grand Slam, Wimbledon, the home country now has no people remaining to represent their country. Carlos Alcaraz eliminated Cammoren Norrie, the last British Singles player in the semifinals.
The country’s top seed, Jack Draper, was eliminated in the second round, a big letdown for the British. On the women’s side, Emma Raducanu was eliminated by top seed Aryna Sabalenka.
As two of the best players in the country, this has been very disappointing in the tournament because this was hosted in Britain, and none of the remaining players can win for their home country.
23 Britons were able to enter the first round of the tournament, but all of them have now been eliminated. However, there is still hope for the doubles section. Two teams remain in the mixed and men’s double, where the British are fighting for a win.
Now we will go into more detail on why they lost and who they lost to.
Jack Draper suffered a loss to Marin Cilic, the 37-year-old veteran, in straight sets. The opponent he played was very good, and he did not receive what was a draw. It was tricky from the start, and to play someone with the serve of Cilic on this surface is incredibly bad luck.
For Radacunu, she played great and had a great tournament, considering that she is 40th in the world. She pushed Sabalenka to her limits and showed that she deserves to be back in the top 10.
Katie Boulter, another one of the best in Britain, was also eliminated by Solana Sierra in just the second round.
Some say that she might’ve just “slipped on a banana peel,” because she had been playing great before this tournament.
Playing against somebody who has nothing to lose and has won so many matches through qualifying – they are floating through the air, feeling light and hitting the ball well – is tough.
Well, the finals of this big tournament are coming soon, and who knows who’s going to win!
